Brand forced to apologise for purity ring jokes

08th September 2008

Host Russell Brand was forced to apologise for poking fun at the Jonas Brothers' morals during Sunday night's MTV Video Music Awards - after a public dressing down from singer Jordin Sparks.

The comedian mocked the pop sensations mercilessly for more than half the show for their no-sex-before-marriage promise and the purity rings they wear.

At one point, he even pretended he'd stolen a Jonas brothers' virginity as he held a ring in his hand.

Sparks, who is among the teen stars putting purity before sex, admonished Brand for his remarks, stating,

"It's not bad to wear a promise ring because not everybody, guy or girl, wants to be a slut."

Minutes later, a crestfallen Brand apologised, saying,

"I've gotta say sorry because I said those things about promise rings; that was bad of me. I didn't mean to take it lightly."

Brand added, "I love Jonas Brothers, I think it's (purity) really good. I don't want to piss off teenage fans... Promise rings, I'm well up for it, well done everyone."

But he couldn't resist a final jab, adding, "It's just, a bit of sex occasionally never hurt anybody."

Noel Gallagher Attacked on Stage

08th September 2008

Just 24 hours after Famethrowa took a big stick to Noel Gallagher's "DEFINITIVE" Top 10 list of mega rock bands, it seems other people have been even more enraged by his opinions. Oasis were playing a show in Toronto, at the V Festival, on Sunday night, when one fan decided simple heckling or a mouthful of blue language aimed at the band's leader just wasn't enough. Instead he attacked the guitarist mid-gig and sent him absolutely flying.

The drama has been posted on YouTube and can be seen below, as can brother Liam's furious reaction, as he looks to plant a British fist in the face of the assailant. The band were midway through "Morning Glory" in their headline set when the stage was invaded by the unnamed man, who security guards apprehended and police later charged with assault. After a brief delay, Oasis and Noel are reported to have retuned to the stage to play six further songs, concluding with their traditional encore of The Beatles' "I Am The Walrus".

Local media reports on the incident, notably at The Globe & Mail newspaper, have inspired some pretty unsympathetic reactions from locals, as the more cynical amongst us might expect. Hydrogen Bob (probably not his real name) from Toronto, was not amused, moaning: "Never amazes me the selfishness of some ‘fans' at concerts who somehow think it is ok to disrupt a show being enjoyed by thousands."

However, Tobias Smith, also from Toronto, who was there, countered: "Perhaps the man was looking for a dance. Or maybe he wanted Liam to quit being such a lame performer and start singing on key. I think it was the first show I've been to that didn't entice 30,000 people to encore the band. It's too bad Canadian authorities can't hold Oasis for putting on a boring show." Well, maybe Noel should turn to famed foe Robbie Williams for moral support to his damaged ego. Because the same thing once happened to him...

Ramsay mocks the Queen's food

Ramsay mocks the Queen's food

TV chef Gordon Ramsay has criticised Queen Elizabeth II's daily menu, branding it "prehistoric".

The acid-tongued cook tasted the food at Buckingham Palace in London after picking up his OBE (Order of the British Empire) there in 2006 - and he was unimpressed by the royal culinary efforts.

He tells US talk show host Jay Leno, "You never actually get to know who is cooking for the Queen - but I wouldn't employ him because the food was s**t.

"Unfortunately, you have to go through the ceremony with the canapes which are just absolutely, shockingly s**t.

"They look prehistoric, like 300 years old."

Kate Moss Covered In Gold

28th August 2008

Someone has taken Kate Moss' role as fashion's golden girl rather literally.

kate moss golden statue

British sculptor Marc Quinn is ready to unveil his latest creation to the world, a nearly $2.8 million, 110-pound solid gold statue of the supermodel, hyped as the largest such creation built since ancient Egypt.

Quinn, the artist behind 2006's Sphinx, a painted bronze statue of Moss in a somewhat provocative yoga pose, has dubbed his new golden girl Siren.

And the British Museum has already heeded its call.

While the venerable London museum has so far only released a close-up photo of the statue's face, the work purportedly shows Moss, once again, in the same contorted yoga pose as before.

"I thought the next thing to do would be to make a sculpture of the person who's the ideal beauty of the moment," Quinn said of his fabulously excessive creation. "But even Kate Moss doesn't live up to the image."

The British public will be able to determine for itself whether the statue succeeds where Moss apparently failed, with the objet d'art going on display in the the same British Museum gallery that houses the institution's ancient Greek sculpture collection.

The statue will be on display from Oct. 4 through Jan. 25.

Elizabeth and husband Arun holiday with Hugh

27th August 2008

Elizabeth Hurley and Hugh Grant have to be among the friendliest exes in showbusiness. On a getaway to Saint Tropez the model-turned-businesswoman and her husband Arun Nayar met up with her former flame, whom she dated for 13 years.

The trio were spotted together in a launch after dining at the exclusive Club 55 with David Furnish, who is in the French Riviera with his partner Elton John.

It's the second year running Elizabeth and Arun have taken a vacation with the Love Actually star. Last October he joined the couple in the Seychelles for a family holiday with her son Damian.

Indeed such is their closeness, the beauty recently declared:

"If I'm alone with Hugh, Arun and Damian I can turn off my cell phone… No-one else really matters."
